Mountain Faith Mission VBS

Each year, around Labor Day weekend, a team of about eight Americans travels into Saut d'Eau, Haiti in order to hold a Vacation Bible School. The VBS is what is known as church camp in America, as each of the churches in MFM will send young people to the main compound in Saut d'Eau for the week where they will be fed three meals a day and take part in Biblical classes in the morning, and services at night. Each year, around 550 people attend VBS, where they are spread out in different buildings across the compound at night. All of the money for food and other needs is raised by the Americans who travel in, which is where your support is crucial. With the ever increasing prices of food, especially in Haiti, feeding some 500 people three meals a day for a week can become quite expensive. While VBS 2010 is still a while away, your financial donation to VBS will go a long way. For more information on VBS 2010, feel free to contact Kenneth Akers, director of Vacation Bible School. Also, consider donating online with and in the comment section, make it known you are donating to Vacation Bible School 2010.

Presently, we are working to partner with churches in America to raise support for our Vacation Bible School. As you hold your VBS at your church this summer, please consider raising money through a nightly offering with your children. There are many avenues to raise money for Mountain Faith Mission VBS 2010 through your church's VBS. This is a great opportunity to show your students how important giving to missions truly is. If you would like to receive information about how to coordinate raising money in 2010 through your VBS in order to help fund MFM VBS 2010, please email us for more information. We are prepared with videos, slideshows, and all of the information you need in order to have a successful missions fundraiser for your children to enjoy.

Our VBS 2010 is scheduled for September 5-9, with our team scheduled to arrive September 3 and return September 11. Please be in prayer for the team that is travelling, as well as the many students who will be attending.

VBS 2009 Report

What a mighty God we serve!

Each year as we begin to pray and plan for VBS, we ask God for help. We want to teach on something that will not only be spiritual, but will be appropriate. This year our theme was relating Old Testament stories to Jesus in the New Testament. When you have to plan lessons that you will teach to all ages, it sometimes presents a problem. But with God all things are possible.

We started on a sour note as the luggage of 3 of our guys never arrived with them, but that happens. After borrowing clothes and finding toiletries, we were good. Everything eventually arrived. Sunday morning started with sending Bro. Ryan Giles off on a motorcycle with people he didn't know to a place he'd never been to preach to people that he couldn't understand. He did great! By the way, this was his first trip in. I spoke at Saut D 'Eau to a full house.

We started each day with a chapel service at 9:00 AM. However, the Haitians had already been in service long before that. Following their breakfast of spaghetti, they would be ready for service. After chapel we would go to classes. First class was ages 9 and younger. This class averaged around 130 per day. Next class was 10-15, then teen class was 16 to early twenties and then the adult class. All the teachers did a great job. We averaged around 570 per day in classes.

In the afternoon, Bro. Danny Phillips, from OK and Bro. Eddie Hodges, from TN, both first timers, taught classes for the pastors.

The evening services were packed to overflowing. With the building full, there were as many as 200 + outside. At the conclusion of every service, the alters were full. On the last night, there were four alter calls with people filling the alters every time. There were at least 700-800 every night in services.

While several of the Americans experienced slight to moderate illnesses, it was a great trip.

In addition to the VBS, we were able to meet with the mayor of the town and have prayer with him. We stopped by the police station/jail and visited with the local police to thank them for their help over the years. They also cam to visit us at the compound and share a coke.

Most nights, after the evening service, the blancs (Americans) would walk from area to area visiting with the Haitians. This is one of our favorite activities. We sing and act goofy, the Haitians love it. We have no interpreters, so there are lots of hand gestures and strange looks. However, we know the same God and share the same love for each other.

Overall, it was another successful and blessed year. We thank all those that have supported us financially over the years. As it is in America, costs continue to rise. If God lays it on your heart, please give NOW for VBS 2010. We were able to save some money for this year by buying some of the food and supplies early. Total cost this year has approached $7000. This was just for the Haitians. As always, all the Americans pay their own way there plus help with costs of VBS.

Please begin to pray for next year, and maybe plan to join us!
